So, their risk for melanoma can vary from ten to one hundred times that of people who don’t carry the gene variants (blondes and brunettes). Dr. David Adams, joint lead researcher at the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute, estimates having the gene is roughly equivalent to the person spending an extra twenty-one years in the sun. In the study’s research he noted that: “It has been known for a while that a person with red hair has an increased likelihood of developing skin cancer, but this is the first time that the gene has been proven to be associated with skin cancers with more mutations.” […]
